NatureMapping

A Geographical Information System (GIS) project, NatureMapping is modeled on successful programs in Washington state and throughout the country. The Institute is spearheading its development in Idaho. Teachers, students and community groups conduct field observations and develop maps. The information that is gathered is important to natural resource, land management and community planning agencies. NatureMapping integrates the use of technology with teaching basic mapping skills, monitoring protocol, and identification of local flora, fauna, and habitat types. The NatureMapping project builds on the foundation of what is known about the flora and fauna of Idaho found on an exciting new teaching and learning tool: the Digital Atlas of Idaho. The Atlas is available free to teachers on CD-ROM or at the web site. Contact the Atlas for more information.
