Looking for something educational and fun in December? Look no further, the Idaho Museum of Natural History has you covered with events for all age groups!
December 3 from 4pm-6pm the museum with host Museum Rangers: Gone Fishin’ for 3rd-6th grade. Come and learn all about Idaho’s fish! First get a little bit messy, and dissect a fish. Later, take some time to reflect on your favorite piece of art in the fish exhibit. Once you’re inspired make a gyotaku fish print to bring home. The price for this class is $15.
December 5 from 10am-12pm the museum will host Evolution for high school students. Are you a high school student with some lingering questions about Darwin and evolutionary theory? Join the museum for hands on activities related to evolution, a tour of the evolution exhibit, and a chance to ask questions. The price for this class is $10, sitting is limited.
December 9 from 11:30am-1pm is Pizza Day @ the Museum! Join IMNH for a pizza, drinks, and off beat tour of the gallery for only $3!
December 10 from 12pm-1pm the museum will host a free lecture. The Idaho Museum of Natural History will host Montana cowboy, symphony conductor, and co-founder of the American Indian Institute Robert Staffanson on December 10 at 12 pm in the museum’s Discovery Room. Staffanson recently published a memoir, Witness to Spirit: My Life with Cowboys, Mozart & Indians. He shares his unique journey of starting out as a “real” cowboy in Montana, and his move to start the Billings Symphony. He then moved to Massachusetts to serve as conductor of the Springfield Symphony. Returning home, Staffanson co-founded the American Indian Institute and become a renowned advocate for Native Americans and indigenous people around the world. This event is free. Bring a lunch and hear this extraordinary story for yourself.
December 11 from 7pm-9pm the IMNH After Dark event is A Very Geeky XMAS to be held on December 11 at 7 pm. Dig out your ugly sweater, prize for ugliest sweater, and join IMNH for a Star Wars themed holiday party. We will be making Star Wars themed ornaments and snowflakes, movie watching, snacks, and a no host bar. Festivities will begin at 7pm in the IMNH Discovery Room. Admission to this event is $2 and is a 21 and up event.
December 15 from 3pm-3:30pm the museum will host Pint Sized Science Academy: Snow! for preschool aged children. Learn about snow and enjoy a lesson about the most fun part of winter. The price for this class is $5.
December 17 from 4pm-5pm the museum will host Museum Rangers: Gone Fishin’ for K-2nd grade. Take some time to reflect on your favorite piece of art in the fish exhibit. Once you’re inspired make a Gyotaku fish print to bring home. The price for this class is $10.
The Museum will be closed December 24th, 25th, 31st, and January 1st.
