Make a snowball (or use crushed ice). Pick up a handful of snow (or crushed ice) and compress it to form a lump sturdy enough to be used as a missile. In the center of the snowball, the light fluffy crystals will have recrystallized in a more compact form, because of the pressure of your hands. This is quite close to the metamorphic process.
