Ecdysis

The act of losing or removing the dead, keratinous, outermost layer of epidermis. In snakes, the old skin is usually rolled off in one piece; in most other reptiles and amphibians it may come off in pieces, and is often pulled off with the teeth and then swallowed (Peters 1964). |
