NEWSPAPER CLIPPING SERVICE
1 or more individuals
Description of Project or Purpose of Assignment:
One or more volunteers are needed to find, clip, copy, scan and
post Museum-related articles from the Idaho State Journal, Blackfoot
Morning News, Idaho Falls Post Register and possibly other area
newspapers. The overall project has four goals: 1) clip articles
from newspapers, 2) make 2 copies of each article (one for permanent
storage in the Museum's archives and one to be given to speakers,
presenters, etc.), 3) scan each article for electronic use by Museum
staff, 4) post originals on the public bulletin board in the Main
Gallery. The Museum's copier and scanner will be available to volunteers,
if needed.
Outcomes/ Goals
Each day, volunteers will look for and clip relevant articles from
newspaper/s to which they subscribe. Each week, volunteers will
scan articles and make 2 copies, posting the originals on the bulletin
board in the Main Gallery.
Training and Support Plan
IMNH Public Relations Manager will train volunteers. Volunteers
will be added to the IMNH Calendar email list to ensure they know
what events to look for in the papers. The Museum's Public Relations
Manager will oversee each volunteer's work.
Reporting
Each volunteer will maintain a daily log that documents the date,
number and size (small, medium, large) of the articles that they
clip/copy/scan/post and the amount of time it took them. Each month,
they will provide the PR Manager with a copy of their log.
Time Commitment
An estimated 15 minutes a day will be required to look for and clip
articles. Another 15 minutes or more once a week will be required
to copy and scan articles, using either the volunteer's personal
equipment or the Museum's. Driving time to the Museum to post articles
and/or use equipment will depend on volunteer's distance from the
Museum. All Museum volunteers have a 1 month probationary period
to make ensure a good fit for both parties.
Qualifications Needed
Successful applicants will have a subscription to one or more regional
newspapers, a personal interest in the Museum's public relation
efforts and available free time.
Benefits
The volunteer will receive a volunteer parking pass to
be used on service days, recognition during National Volunteer Appreciation
Week and will gain personal satisfaction by partnering with the
Museum and its staff. After volunteering 30 service hours each year,
the volunteer will receive an individual Museum membership. If requested
and warranted, letters of recommendation and documentation of service
will be provided to the volunteer.
