Welcome to the Idaho Geology Outreach Online

Have you ever wondered why Idaho has such a variety of landscapes, from flat volcanic lava fields to high, tree covered mountains? Did you know that, long ago, some areas of Idaho bordered the ocean and the state was later covered by a shallow inland sea? Did dinosaurs ever roam here?

This website will hopefully answer these and many other questions you may have about Southeastern Idaho. It is designed to be a resource for teachers, students, and anyone else interested in learning and studying the rich geologic history of our state. We will look back at Earth's foundations and its earliest geologic record. We'll explore the deep inner Earth all the way to the outer reaches of the universe. As you examine the different subjects, check out the pictures and animations, and think about the various questions included on each topic. With each new subject you will gain a better understanding of how Idaho became the beautiful state that it is today!

This website is made possible by grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services.
