The Idaho
Museum of Natural History's (IMNH) Earl H. Swanson Archaeological
Repository operates the Archaeological Survey of Idaho's (ASI) - Eastern
Repository, a curatorial center and repository for archaeological
collections from the twenty-four counties in southeastern Idaho. Collections
originating in the western and northern portions of the state are
curated at the Western Repository, Office of the State Archaeologist,
Idaho State Historical Society, Boise, and at the Northern Repository,
Laboratory of Anthropology, University of Idaho, Moscow.
The term "collections" refers to materials recovered by archaeological surveys, tests or excavations and any supporting documentation, including, but not limited to, maps, field notes, records, catalogs, photographic media and properly completed IMACS (Intermountain Archaeological Coding System) site forms. Idaho Museum of Natural History collection management policies are directed toward providing optimal housing, conservation, documentation, and accessibility of collections in it's care. In order to provide the best possible care, all collections submitted to ASI - Eastern Repository must conform to ASI's Curatorial Standards and Guidelines.
